Either the bacteria are helping the metabolism of proteins to amino-acid neurotransmitters, or specific strains of bacteria exist expressing the enzyme necessary to synthesize the neurotransmitter, maybe? Should do single cell RNA seq on microbiome to see.

The cited text claims that majority of the neurotransmitters, and not only their building blocks, are synthesized in the intestines! Do you know of any NT made in intestines, by which bacteria?
